Description

OT Magnets

Black, matte, and partially glossy panels appear on the wall like portals or voids. Coated with magnetic material and worked with adhering iron powder, they oscillate between image, space, and object. Their haptic and material qualities are not immediately apparent; they shift with the movement of the viewer, altering reflection and mirroring, and creating a dynamic interplay of proximity and distance.
Additive and subtractive markings—forms, finger traces, and surfaces—lend the panels a distinctly graphic quality. The wooden support, covered with iron powder, is transformed into a third state, opening up multiple readings between nature and technology, materially combining both and extending them through the gesture of the maker.
In their scale, the works relate to the human body, establishing a spatial and architectural presence. The drawing, and its aesthetic, is held in place by the magnetic force of the surface—remaining fragile, yet in a constant state. The works…
