Rothe's created room and its inhabitants are an immersive experience in which seemingly paradoxical emotions coexist:
Disgust and desire. Closeness, approach, and distance. Pity and embarrassment. Plush softness next to bare wrinkled skin, trusting eyes over unsettling exposed limbs.
They move you. They touching you there where the scars of uncertainty resides, which you received at elementary school yards, the feeling of being too big. But there is also also the memory of those encounters where communication without words was possible and one was unexpectedly given back faith in miracles by an abrupt feeling of connection.
