Eva de Souza’s artistic-activist practice is rooted in community-oriented textile experimentation and a longstanding engagement with social justice, anti-racism, and feminism. Using the craft techniques of embroidery and sewing, she interweaves personal stories with social events, and media impressions with names and slogans. The result is a series of striking textile image-worlds. Embroidery also serves as a resistant form of processing experiences such as migration, police violence, and discrimination. Making these issues visible, in turn, creates opportunities for exchange and mutual empowerment across different communities.
With tecidos que curam, Stadtgalerie Bern presents the first institutional solo exhibition by the Swiss-Brazilian artist.
