Ang Ziqi Zhang’s second solo show at Silke Lindner, Unfixer, presents a new series of paintings shaped by asemic Taoist talismanic calligraphy (fulu). These talismanic diagrams, traditionally used for divination and healing, serve as visual-linguistic foundations in Zhang’s compositions—yet legibility is deliberately avoided. Instead, Zhang “unfixes” these forms, transforming logic into layered abstraction that resists linear interpretation.
Her work explores the tension between control and freedom, diagram and intuition, with compositions that begin in order and dissolve into electric fields of color and motion. Musical in construction, the paintings use repetitive structures akin to electronic music, where modulation, not linear progression, drives evolution. This interweaving of ancient symbolic systems and contemporary sound logic creates vibrant, sensorial experiences.
