An unrelenting desire to let life go to bits. Throwing it all into the air. The uncontained aliveness in watching the confetti of a shredded psyche fall like cherry blossom petals at the end of spring. — M.L., Tokyo, 2026
All to Bits, Margaret Leeʼs third exhibition at the gallery, looks at the remnants of a psyche—shredded. Materially, newspaper returns, along with a familiar pink color palette, geometric configurations, and loose gestures. While recognizable in their recombinant forms, the works are not a reassembly. No acts of retrieval occur; the compositions develop in a state of imbalance. The structured cadence of consistent scale shifts (small/large/small/large) provides just enough scaffolding so that unhingedness does not preclude resolution, as does allowing time and place specificity to influence aesthetic outcomes.
Margaret Leeʼs recent solo and group exhibitions include: Tip-of-the-Toungue, The Green Gallery, Milwaukee, 2025; Life Lines, Jack Hanley Gallery, New York,…
