"Magic Mirrors" was the first solo exhibition by Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert (R&F F&R) at FRED&FERRY Gallery in Antwerp (BE). It took place from September 5 to October 9, 2021. A new series of works was created especially for this exhibition. Frank and Robbert transformed drawings and clay tablets into large massive plexiglass mirrors. Doing so, the artists played with the concepts of spiritual mirroring, but also theme park hall of mirrors and fairs; think of Coney Island, circus and carnival. But... a little bit different. The mirrors were often a combination of humor with serious reflections, placing the perception of both the maker and the viewer at the center. Hints to the COVID pandemic and international politics were never far-off. The exhibition was characterized by an "informed naivety" and "pragmatic idealism." Frank and Robbert combined the magic mirrors with a series of small rituals; hammering amulets into the wall, shredding personal sorrows, doing a little blood magic…
