The idea for the exhibition emerged from the constant experience of simultaneous presence and absence, from a confusion of the feeling of “Where am I?”. When one is continually traveling back and forth, the sense of this question can get lost. What does “where” even mean then? Living as commuters between two places, Jennifer Jordan and Jens Nippert experience incongruent senses of place. With this exhibition, they want to build a bridge between Berlin and Nuremberg. For Nie Da Gewesen, they bring together in the latter city artists who also have a connection to both cities, or whom they simply want to show together in one place. Just as presence and absence can intermingle, there are also different and even opposing artistic responses to the question of presence, to how or which form of presence is produced in each case. Where do the works stand between fully there and not quite from here? Is it about presence, or about presences? Some pieces want to seem as if they have always been…
