BOOK

Ilka Helmig, Petites Perceptions

Description

Ilka Helmig has developed photographic, drawing, and installation works that explore processes of growth, visual structures, and the limits of perception. This book, conceived and designed by Helmig herself, brings together a selection of these image series from the period 2022 to 2025.

Through an essay by Katie Eva Gaj, Helmig’s works are interpreted in light of Leibniz’s concept of “petites perceptions”—those imperceptibly small perceptions that coalesce into consciousness. How do forms become visually perceptible? What patterns emerge in the transition between regularity and chance? The collected images reveal how structure manifests itself in drawing, photography, and installation—not as an illustration of a theory, but as a visual inquiry in its own right.
