Biography
Although Santiago Insignares-Martínez’s artistic journey began in Bogotá and took him through Rome (IED) and San Francisco (SFAI), ceramics became his primary focus after moving to Germany to study under Prof. Isa Melsheimer at Muthesius Kunsthochschule. His time there has led to institutional exhibitions, as well as participation in the 12th Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale International Competition in 2024.
As a ceramic artist, Insignares-Martínez draws inspiration from both ancient and modern ruins to create sculptures that that critically reflect systems in crisis. Using playful appropriation and reconstruction, he assembles colorful ceramic structures that explore the relationship between architecture and identity, while evoking nostalgia for childhood building games and the journey of coming-of-age.
