Biography
Kolja Kärtner Sainz was born in 1998 in Mannheim. He studied Photography and Painting at the Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts. Kärtner Sainz approaches painting as a dialectic process of open inquiry, in which abstraction and representation merge into dense narratives. His work unfolds through a continuous interplay of intuitive mark-making and rational retraction mixing oil. ink and traditional skinglue. In his dynamic and multi-layered compositions, each gesture acts as a protagonist of an open system that maintains a fragile, breathing balance between order and chaos, nature and artificiality. Soft, gradual transitions evoke digital interfaces, skin layers, or geological strata. Gesture and drawing operate as both a material and temporal trace, simultaneously building and deconstructing spatial presence. Reduced in color and borrowing from a wide range of historical periods, a kinetic abstraction emerges, that embraces painting as a psychologically charged dimension where body and…
