
Anton Varga
Biography
Anton Varga was born in 1989 in Uzhhorod (Ukraine).
Since 2015, he has lived and worked in New York (US), Lviv (Ukraine) and Poznań (Poland).
Main media and formats: painting, video, photography.
He studied Graphic Design at the Zakarpattia Art Institute, Ukraine, in 2006–2010 (BFA).
Continued his education at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, Ukraine, in 2010-2012
(MFA). Attended the Summer school program at the Ukrainian Institute in Harvard, Cambridge, US, in
2018 and the Film Program at Hunter College, City University of New York, US, in 2018-2019. Received
MFA at Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of Arts, Studio Program, in 2024.
Co-founder and active member of the Open Group (August 2012, Lviv), which explores interactions
between people and contextual spaces, creating the so-called “open situations”. Co-founder of the
“Sorry No Rooms Available” art residency in his hometown, Uzhhorod (running since 2016).
His recent interests hover around war consumption and the politics…
