Villa Stuck Museum
Villa Stuck is a nationally and internationally renowned venue for engaging with art from the 19th to the 21st centuries. A significant collection of works by Franz von Stuck (1863–1928) and international exhibitions on art around 1900, as well as on modern and contemporary art, make Villa Stuck a unique place to experience art.
Franz von Stuck’s villa (built in 1897–1898) combines luxurious interior design, a prestigious artist’s studio and private living quarters. Villa Stuck was hailed by his contemporaries as a ‘modern’, albeit unconventional, sensation. At the 1900 Paris World Exhibition, the furniture that the artist had designed specifically for his villa was awarded a gold medal.
The Artists’ Villa was completed in 1915 with the addition of a new, spacious studio building. At the rear of the villa lies an artists’ garden that combines Pompeian influences with 19th-century works of art.
