Tobias Kaspar (born in 1984 in Basel, Switzerland) lives and works between Zurich and Riga, as well as in Mesocco (Switzerland) and Salacgrīva (Latvia), where he runs The Estate, two artist residencies and exhibition spaces that extend his interest in artistic infrastructures and the social conditions of cultural production.
Kaspar’s practice treats artistic production itself as a material. For nearly twenty years, he has examined the systems through which value, authorship, ambition, and cultural meaning are produced, circulated, and staged, working across photography, textiles, installation, publishing, fashion, and exhibition design. By repeatedly making the mechanisms of cultural production the very subject of his work, Kaspar has developed a practice of remarkable coherence and breadth.
