I Want Orgasms, Not Roses marks Éva Szombat’s first solo exhibition in Slovakia, bringing together a selection of works from one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary photography.
Working across photography, installation, and publishing, Szombat explores intimacy, identity, relationships, body politics, and mental health through a visual language that is both humorous and deeply personal. Blending autobiography with social observation, her work challenges conventional ideas of femininity, romance, and self-representation, inviting viewers to confront vulnerability with honesty and empathy.
Taking its title from one of Szombat’s most celebrated works, I Want Orgasms, Not Roses foregrounds questions of desire, agency, and emotional authenticity. Oscillating between irony and sincerity, the exhibition reflects the artist’s ongoing commitment to making the personal political, while transforming everyday experiences into images that resonate far beyond autobiography.
