Solar presents Eu Prefiro Ser (“I Prefer to Be”), a major exhibition celebrating Ney Matogrosso’s 85th birthday. Curated by Bernardo Mosqueira, Matheus Morani, and Pablo León de la Barra, the exhibition offers an experimental immersion in the legacy of one of Brazilian culture’s most influential artists, bringing together historical works, photographs, an extensive audiovisual archive, and a series of new works created especially for the occasion.

The group exhibition explores the singer’s life and work, highlighting the impact of his free-spirited and inspiring behavior on struggles against normativity, authoritarianism, and disregard for nature. Beyond revisiting his contribution to the history of Brazilian music, Eu Prefiro Ser reflects on his influence on the country’s cultural imagination since the 1970s and reveals how his trajectory continues to inspire artists across generations and forms of expression.
