ROH is delighted to share ikkibawiKrrr’s upcoming solo exhibition, Lalu, Lagu Lalu Lalu: Then, Another Passing Song, continuing the visual research band’s journey of expanded belonging, untethered to place and time.
How do we meet our ancestors when we have lost our ground, both as a physical space and a sense of belonging? Lalu, Lagu Lalu Lalu directly follows the collective’s presentation in Basel, Lalu, Lagu Lalu Lalu: Then, Another Passing Song, extending their focus on stones and places that endure time through their seclusion from urban life.
The installation brings together research conducted across South Korea and Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, developed in ongoing relationship with communities who hold an unbroken proximity to their ancestral lives, rather than treating preserved relics as heritage. ikkibawiKrrr’s practice of charcoal rubbing, which they affectionately term as to “rock n’ feel”, is to touch time through physical contact with weathered stone surfaces.
