Of Gardens – The Secret Motions of Things is a site-specific exhibition in which nine contemporary artists engage in dialogue with the island’s public and private spaces — from church and harbour to ferry deck, shipyard and landscape.
Rather than taking place in a single exhibition space, the exhibition unfolds as a dispersed, poetic structure of interventions across Fejø’s landscape. The works are closely connected to their specific locations, and the audience’s experience emerges through movement between the different sites: an apple orchard, harbour, fence, abandoned house or church interior. The context becomes just as important as the objects themselves.
The exhibition deliberately avoids a traditional thematic framework — the absence of an overarching message serves as a space in which the individual works can “speak for themselves” while together unfolding a narrative about impermanence, nature versus technology, and art as a guest in everyday spaces and in the landscape.
