City operates like an overstrained metabolic system. It pulses with light and with bodies entangled in its infrastructure, its choreography shaped by the rhythms of work and the circulation of capital.
Its tissues are exploited. Its tissues are exhausted. Its tissues are unwell.
They do not grow evenly. Some expand excessively while others wither away. Progress is sustained at the expense of the bodies that keep the system running. More spaces are drawn into circulation — illuminated, heated, secured and monitored — yet the multiplication of
walls and roofs does not necessarily produce shelter. Access to light, warmth, water, quiet and space remains unevenly distributed. Some bodies are free to inhabit the city, while others are pushed towards its margins.
And yet, even within an overstrained organism, forms of coexistence emerge. Life continually adapts, finding its own paths and ways of inhabiting what is already there. But this is not enough. We need something more.
