POWER RELATIONS invites us to reconsider the “spark” of human connection and the materiality of art in light of the influence of memes and image-making on social media. Through new and selected artworks by Gaia Vincensini, Daniel Drabek, and Marilou Bal, the exhibition opens a dialogue on the evolution of the image within meme culture, broader social media dynamics, and their impact on contemporary art.
It explores how culture and artistic language are shaped through the subconscious consumption of internet meme, selfie, meme “deep-fried” memes, and their characteristic simplicity. In a time when visual communication and social interconnectedness are overwhelmingly shaped by digital media, the exhibition invites us to reflect on the physical translation of ideas—and the time invested—in transforming them into tangible, material forms.
