Carsten Fock’s artistic work moves within the field of tension between landscape, the history of painting, and the postwar history of a divided Germany. For the artist, who lives in Bamberg and in Vejby, Denmark, landscape is not a neutral motif but one charged with historical and art-historical meaning; in painting, drawing, and installation, he critically interrogates cultural memory and its persistence into the present. In the exhibition „Fault Lines,“ he examines how current social upheavals – the shift to the right, social division, and the polarization of public discourse – manifest themselves in aesthetic forms, and what responsibility painting bears in times of political uncertainty. In his paintings, he renders moods, ruptures, and tensions visible – across landscape, architecture, and the figure.
