Press Release

Overview:

This is the artists’ first solo exhibition in Italy. Known for blending sculpture, performance, choreography, music, and film into immersive installations, Boudry / Lorenz present a site-specific project for Villa Maraini. The show features newly commissioned works alongside existing pieces structured in a timed sequence across the villa’s rooms.

Concept:

The exhibition investigates the political and emotional power of sound—its role in expressing hope, mourning, and desire under repression. The title quotes Chelsea Manning, highlighting music's role during her incarceration. Voice and dance serve as central tools, with choreography and architectural interplay evoking collective resistance and utopian ideals.

Artistic Practice:

Since 2007, Boudry / Lorenz have collaborated in Berlin, focusing on visibility, performance, and queer histories. Their work reimagines historical narratives using multi-layered performances, often involving long-term collaborators.
