Vanity of Vanities / Karla Kaplun
From the allegorical emptiness of the tile:
flowers of a garden that does not exist,
a garland where a serpent is encoded:
Nothingness adorned before the mirror.
A frivolous angel matched in vanity
to the one that, on the watery canvas of the fountain,
remained painted, the same yet different,
drowned in itself, a triumphant reflection.
Ah, Karla Kaplun, tell us, what did you do?
Vanity of vanities, your motto!
The gods are dead, yet their beauty persists.
Can Christ be the emblem of Nothingness?
Does meaning die yet still persist
in a form disguised as an anathema?
Luis Felipe Fabre
