Halsey McKay is pleased to present New Work, an exhibition of recent drawings by Sara Greenberger Rafferty. The current series of drawings leaves the photograph aside, and foregrounds the handmade alongside color combinations that evoke palettes, test patterns, and seasonal collections. The small scaled drawings – assembled strips of plastic and acrylic polymer paint on paper – can be easily described as a series of vertical stripes. However, they are also undulating, adjusting, imprecise, and variable. They assemble and disassemble, multiply and morph — into ombres, glitches, and offbeat patterns.

This is Rafferty’s second solo show with the gallery — although she has been a Halsey McKay interlocutor for almost fifteen years — the first exhibition to include the artist’s drawings in approximately twenty years.
