The exhibition begins with a group of black-and-white photographs taken during the demonstrations that moved through the streets of Chicago in late 1972 in protest against the intensification of the bombing in Vietnam. Sixteen of these photographs have been selected, combining the documentary and the artistic. Marisa González was pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the Art Institute, enrolled in the Generative Systems Program, which had recently been created by Sonia Sheridan, its director. Upon arriving in the United States, she encountered a country immersed in the mobilization of civil society, a broad-based movement involving students, military veterans, and a large portion of the general population, regardless of age, race, or status. Marisa joined the protests, camera in hand, happy to exercise a fundamental right: the freedom of collective expression manifested in public space.
