Pieter Vermeersch (1973, Kortrijk, Belgium) lives and works in Turin, Italy.
The painterly canon has been a question, problem, challenge, and field of reflection in Vermeersch's work for many years. He has been consistently reformulating his questions about painting—its tradition, medium, and history—often measuring it against photography, architecture, matter, and the notion of time.
With representation and abstraction as parameters, Vermeersch’s oeuvre triggers perceptual experiences between appearance and disappearance, where the two- and three-dimensional, the immaterial and the tangible, and time and space become blurred.
