Biblioteka is pleased to present this solo exhibition by Nat Kochan, curated by Jazbo Gross.

Exhibition text:

To pass through death successfully is perhaps the oldest fantasy of power: a system of inclusion and exclusion, separating what is to be carried forward from what will be abandoned or forgotten. But what is carried forward is never simply what was intended. Preservation distorts and reallocates meaning as much as it protects it. Objects outlive use, outlive belief, outlive the hands that made or handled them, and continue in altered form, for better or for worse. Their survival does not necessarily dignify them. Just as often it makes them stranger, smaller, more available to accident.

The work in this exhibition begins from this state of wayward persistence and from a question of afterlife. Not the afterlife of souls, monuments, or treasures, but of forms that have lost or given up their authority. Hobby foam, glow-in-the-dark paint, a miniature silver clay head of Tutankhamen,…
