I think my whole life is a dream. A dream with no ending where everything feels like it’s a game, a movie… If you call my name, I might answer, but do not look for me in that voice. I am the pause between breaths.
“Magic Misery” presents a new body of work by artist Lorena Buta, expanding her long-term project “UNREAL” (2023 – present) in which she investigates the detachment of the self from itself and its surroundings. “Magic Misery” explores the way in which stress, trauma and technology-driven hyperstimulation can act as triggers for a phantasmagoric feeling of alienation; a dreamlike state of being that dissolves identity, distorts perception of reality and questions one’s inhabitance in their own body.
Lorena Buta (b. 2001) is a romanian artist exploring the unstable boundary between consciousness and reality, constructing visual environments that mirror the psychological instability of depersonalization and derealization. Her work translates these states into symbolic,…
