Press Release

We’re proud to present the Sunday Morning Painters Club with Pastèque: a one-day, one-painting event by Rob Knijn atSunset Sunday Morning Painters Club reveals conversations between painters and paintings on a quiet Sunday morning.

Rob Knijn, Dutch (b.1966) is an artist working within the age-old tradition of painting. Although the act of painting might be perceived as conservative or idiosyncratic, Knijn considers painting a valid means of understanding the world (or trying to), as every era brings new ideas, challenges and images. Quoting the artist Gustave Courbet: “Beauty, like truth, is a thing which is relative to the time when one lives and to the individual capable of understanding it.”Knijn loves the idea of a painting hanging on a wall, in a room, still, quietly spreading its influence on viewers every single day. It’s such an elegant act, very much in contrast to the vulgarity of today’s unavoidable violent and authoritarian powers in the world.
