
Biography
Yaroslav Solop (b. 1979, Sokyriany, Chernivtsi Region) is a Ukrainian artist, curator, and researcher specializing in photography. He is the co-founder of BOOKSHA Publishing and the editor-in-chief of UPHA Made in Ukraine: An Anthology of Contemporary Ukrainian Photography. Since 2017, he has been the coordinator of the Ukrainian Photographic Alternative.
In his artistic practice, Solop combines photography, drawing, and digital photomontage to examine the relationship between mythology, culture, and contemporary society. Juxtaposition, confrontation, and layering are central strategies in his work. By bringing together past and present , fact and fiction, analogue and digital, irony and melancholy, he creates a multilayered visual world as a place for new meanings. For us, an artist’s perspective is essential to the selection process. It brings an unpredictable element that opens new ways of seeing the topic.
