As the second part of his first solo exhibition at Galerie Buchholz Berlin, Yuji Agematsu presents Marseille, 1994, an installation of 35 mm slide projections. The photographs were taken in Marseille, France, in 1994. Since then, they have been projected three times as part of one-night performances. The first took place in 2004 at Anthology Film Archives in New York. The photographs were then not shown for thirteen years, until Agematsu projected them in 2017 at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art in San Francisco and in 2025 at Pratt Institute of Arts in New York. In the exhibition at Galerie Buchholz, Marseille, 1994 is being shown for the first time as an expanded installation.
