The desire for premium and luxury goods clashes with the reality experienced by Pavol Godiška, a recent art school graduate, as well as in the lives of countless other precarious individuals around the world, who face low personal economic capacity and material security. However, Godiška accepts these limitations and incorporates them into his work as the conceptual framework for his own artistic practice. What cannot be bought must be made. What cannot be afforded must be replaced with something else. Godiška replaces the perfect surfaces and precisely cut shapes of expensive, high-end materials with the most affordable ones possible. For example, in an older work, he used instant noodles as the source material for a replica of the iconic Birkin bag, the leather original of which, depending on the edition, ranges in price from tens to hundreds of thousands of euros.
