I was once human.
Then the hum began, and I turned inside out.
Now I move through fields of blue and ultraviolet,
gathering fragments of color that no longer belong to me.
What Pipeline presents Art & Ecology, a new body of work by Veit Laurent Kurz. Art & Ecology is the continuation of Circle of the Bee—a four-year artistic investigation combining ecology, psychology, and fiction into a single narrative. Over the course of this ongoing series, Kurz has developed paintings, sculptures, video works, and performances that trace the entanglement of human and nonhuman perception.
Through these works Kurz follows the story of a boy—eventually a reflection of himself—who slowly transforms into a bee. The metamorphosis remains ambiguous: is it caused by environmental conditions, or does it unfold within a psychological or imaginative realm?
Art & Ecology takes the post-transformative perspective, adopting the gaze of the bee itself. Over recent months, Kurz has sought to inhabit this altered…
