Carrau is the title under which Laia Estruch presents her latest works at Galería Ehrhardt Flórez. Her practice, oriented for years toward performance, now proposes with this new body of work a different reading in relation to the performative and the plastic. If voice and body are the elements that have structured her research around performance, her practice has nevertheless remained very close to certain sculptural conceptions.
While Estruch understands the voice as an extension of the body capable of synthesizing questions related to language, speech, gender, or social structures, her most recent work has explored issues related to urban spaces and their physical structures. In this way, for several years now, Estruch has articulated through sculptural artifacts physical spaces conceived as scenes of experimentation that allow the body to move into the realm of gestural and performative action.
