The creator of Discursive Geometry is Mark Starel (aka prof. Wiesław Łuczaj), who in 2011 initiated a new path in the development of geometric art towards a strong emphasis on the discursive layer of works, breaking with the postulate of seeking universal principles, and focusing on art with clear references to everyday reality.
The genesis of the trend should be seen in the work of Mark Starel, especially in the concept of statistical art implemented since 1999 and the concept of statistical reality introduced by him in 2007, as well as in the works of Rita Ernst (Switzerland), Josef Linschinger (Austria), Gerhard Hotter (Germany) and Jean-François Dubreuil (France).
The name Discursive Geometry refers to the diagnosis of artistic practices in the field of geometric abstraction made by prof. Grzegorz Sztabiński, who in 2011 pointed to the need to supplement the main areas of art expressed in the language of geometry: concrete art and art as philosophy, with geometry in discourse.…
