Description

"Oil and airbrush on canvas. Two mirrored cat silhouettes on a flat red ground, text reading 'A friend is a second self.' The piece operates on three simultaneous references; an Aristotle quote on friendship and identity, a Lucki lyric ('my brotha just anotha me'), and a post ironic internet meme depicting a kid standing next to a cat in the same posture. All three are saying the same thing from completely different corners of culture. The work sits at the intersection of the autobiographical and the philosophical, examining how relationships, self image, and identity are shaped and reflected through meme culture, social media, and the internet. This is the thesis of Refertothis made visual. Memes already doing what art has always tried to do."
